I think 4 or 5 of us posted that we thought he was going to opt out. I don't think anyone posted that they agreed he would opt in. It's clear you went against conventional wisdom on this call for some reason.
(not a no brainer, these things usually aren't unless the player has stated what they will do in advance like Melo)

Him leaving miami, him taking less money with miami, him taking more money with miami, him taking more years with Miami....?

Personally, I thought he'd take more years with Miami. I still think that's what he'll do.

I can't, with all the info out there, buy that the consensus would be him opting out to sign a longer deal with miami

I seem to recall a few writers suggesting his best option be opting in, see how this year plays out and then making his decision on next summer.

LeBron becomes a fa in this case next season no matter where he signs. Reason we do early is because of expansion lists and protecting your players. As for everything pointing to the opposite. Why is him opting out such a bug news story? Ah, thanks! I knew there was a valid reason. I would think going by the nba schedule would be more exciting. Some VBA teams would make out better or worse but it would take some or the subjectivity out of how it's currently done. Yes, lists are made prior for expansion/contraction but that adds another balancing element to the game.

So in your mind it was a no brainer that LeBron was opting out and resigning with the heat I certainly wouldn't call it a "no brainer", but I think that the consensus among our owners was that he would opt out. I also think that there were obvious signs he would opt out. 1. He's been rumoured to want a return to Cleveland for a few years, so the shadow of doubt had already been cast. 2. It's LeBron James, he craves the spotlight, he loves the attention. What draws more attention to him, and his "brand"...opting in, and just staying with Miami?...or opting out, and testing the Free Agent waters? All and all, you do your best to accurately project a players decision...it's not an exact science. This is one of the interesting aspects of out league, is that it can foster discussion like this. I think it's the biggest bummer for teams who have a ton of cap space this summer, and could have had a shot at LeBron. It'll be interesting to see what Bosh and Wade do next.

I seem to recall a few writers suggesting his best option be opting in, see how this year plays out and then making his decision on next summer. Almost everything I read suggested he opted in for one more year to see how it went, and opted out next year. Can't blame Brian here.

Bad mistake, no need to defend him, but no need to keep banging on about it.
These things happen.

At no point did Z-Bo opt out. He opted-in to the final year and got an extension on top of that.
Should be a $20M hit over the next two years for you?
